Contemplative Leadership Summer Retreat 2025
Three days. One coastline. A retreat to reawaken your leadership.
Join me this July 22-24 in Greystones, Co Wicklow, Ireland, for a unique, experiential Contemplative Leadership-themed retreat.
This Contemplative Leadership retreat is designed for senior leaders who are in need of a reset, who know they have another level of leadership that they are currently finding hard to access, leaders who:
· Are excellent at looking after their people but don’t always take time for themselves to recharge
· Have significant responsibilities - leading others and delivering ambitious results - yet often find themselves on the backfoot, trying to play catchup with their endless to-do lists
· Successfully navigate complex internal and external systems but since ‘the buck stops with them’, they have first-hand experience of the pressure and loneliness that their responsibilities bring
· Can feel stuck in patterns of ‘push and collapse’; pushing themselves to hit important deadlines, followed by periods of exhaustion where they collapse and try to recover before the next big push. These leaders want to learn to overcome this vicious cycle
· Are interested in exploring presence-based approaches to systemic change
We’ll step away from the noise, walk the coastal paths, sail the bay, and dive deeply into the practice of contemplative leadership — reconnecting with our own inner clarity, presence, and wisdom.
Content we’ll explore together will include:
· How to lead when we’re not in control
· Leading from the source of true authority, rather than positional power
· Practices to slow down and see more clearly
· How to cultivate inner stability in unstable times
· Where are we being invited to ‘let go’ to go deeper? To access greater inner resources so we can navigate the paradoxes and uncertainties we regularly face in our leadership
· Practices to help us befriend uncertainty
· How to embrace liminal space in our leadership, that in-between space when the usual ways of leading don’t seem to work, but we’re not yet sure what other approaches to leadership are possible
· How to welcome discomfort; cultivate curiosity and compassion, let go of defensiveness and fear in order to lead others from a stance of openness, possibility, and emergent potential
· How to become aware of our fears, explore their underlying narratives, and engage them with compassion. This allows us to move away from projecting our internal version of reality onto the people and systems we influence
· Ways to find balance within and with the elements without
· What to do when we catch glimpses of inner shifts, which will empower us to:
o Act from inner authority
o Lead with presence
o Meaningfully connect with and influence others
Bonus:
In addition, retreat participants will get to have:
1: One pre-retreat coaching session and one post-retreat coaching session, worth €1,400.
2. And, you will gain full access to The Contemplative Leader Online Course, which includes 4.5 hours of videos and reflective exercises, worth €450.
This twelve-session course guides you through a series of deepening reflective exercises and contemplative practices. It will serve as a continuation of the retreat and an ongoing resource for participants, supporting them to embed their insights and learnings over the weeks and months that follow the retreat.
Online course details:
· Starting with an understanding of what contemplation is, you’ll then explore various facets of your False Self: from tracing the arc of your journey into leadership to how your body is physiologically wired to experience challenge and change.
· You’ll next explore the different identities you inhabit as a leader and then delve into aspects of your True Self, including the fundamental meaning, the raison d’être, of your leadership.
· Building from this grounded awareness, you’ll consider how best to use your power and influence for good. You’ll begin by exploring various dimensions of interpersonal dynamics and then group and team interactions from the perspective of nonattached, contemplative leadership.
The Contemplative Leadership Retreat will be an experiential journey through the principles I’ve explored in my work, including The Contemplative Leader book and my current series, 10 Ways to Face the Unknown.
Morning and afternoon sessions will blend personal reflection, practical leadership tools, and real conversation — all set against the stunning backdrop of where the Wicklow Mountains meet the Irish Sea.
With fine dining, sea air, and space to breathe, this is your invitation to reset, refocus, and return renewed.
Places are limited and are likely to fill up quickly. I’m keeping this retreat intimate to ensure deep connection and individual attention.

Testimonials
“Many of us have been involved in various leadership trainings, but this one truly made an impact and will be deeply remembered by all participants. Patrick is a very nice, mindful and warm personality, with a strong ability to radiate trust and create a safe base. He is a great active listener, who is able to rephrase, challenge, build to help managers/individuals to better understand and articulate themselves. I enjoyed working with Patrick and highly recommend him to either work individually with a senior leader (coaching, mentoring, sparring partner) or with a management team to help them elevating as a leadership team.”
— Frederic Lehmann, Senior Vice President Market Group at LEGO Group
“I had the opportunity to work with Patrick both personally as a coachee, and as a team for leadership program. To start with the latter, this has been the most effective leadership program I’ve attended in my career, as Patrick has a completely bespoke approach for each different team. This tailored approach is very rare as most leadership programs I’ve attended were always standard and did not have any alterations to different teams. His flexibility, calmness and iterative approach have turned even the most difficult conversations to positive outcomes. I can still feel the positive influence and energy after months, and it still helps us as a team to operate at our maximum, to decide effectively and to maintain the trust.
As a coachee, Patrick has been a great influencer in almost a leap frog in my life. Not only he has helped me to deep dive once again in my values, personality, life purpose, but also widened my perspective to unleash my true potential, my true self as a leader. Hence I strongly recommend Patrick for those who would like themselves and their teams to be at their best!”
— Gulru Atak, Managing Director, Global Innovation Lead for Treasury and Trade Solutions, Citi
“The Contemplative Leader is timely in a constantly changing world; who we are and how we lead is more critical than ever. Patrick’s challenge to his readers to find the space to be their integrated selves—the goal of contemplation—is refreshing and speaks to the desire of people to be led by leaders who are authentic. From start to finish, he takes you through both ancient wisdom and the latest psychological theories in an insightful, practical, and a deeply engaging way. This book has the potential to re-define what it means to lead in the modern era.”
—Tom Hall, Global Head of Social Impact, UBS
“I’ve benefited greatly from Patrick’s wisdom and counsel as I seek to become a leader worth following in today’s ultra-competitive marketplace. There are precious few thought leaders who truly understand the increasing necessity for emotional intelligence in corporate leadership. Patrick’s background and skillset uniquely qualifies him to both speak and coach into this area, which is a crucial learning area for many executives.”
— John Foong, Director, Global Strategic Partnerships, Google
“To many people, ‘contemplative’ and ‘leader’ might seem like opposites. But read Patrick Boland and discover why this is not true—and need not be true for you or your organization.”
